My Favourite App(s) - Nathan Czachur

Nathan Czachur   —   12 September 2013   —   Opinion

Philips Hue AppI decided I would do a post on the most cutting edge, futuristic and exciting apps available today. There are apps to control your house lighting, pay for your shopping or technologies like the Google Glass and smart watches.

But, as I don’t use any of them, I thought it would be misleading if I wrote about them. Instead, I've got the best apps I have used so I can give my own reasons for using them:

Spotify

I probably spend one or two hours a day listening to music on Spotify! If I have ever ignored your call, it’s usually because I'm listening to music on Spotify or its drained my battery. For me, Spotify is the best because I can choose from millions of songs and get recommended music based on songs I listen to, as well as letting me skip any songs I hate (Usually the odd 1 Direction song gets recommended!). I just found SongKick on Lois' last post so now I can see local gigs in Spotify and play the top songs from the band, making it even easier to find new music!

TED

Ted talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design are the ones I watch regularly. I love TED talks and whenever I'm sat waiting for something; I'll try to watch one of their videos, you will always find something fascinating you weren't expecting. All the talks are free, so everyone has the opportunity to view them and they're also short enough to stay interesting throughout, making me want to watch even more.

Subway Subcard

Since working at Access, I've developed a small addiction to eating at Subway. I'm not complaining, they taste great, but they are slowly eating away at my wallet, which is why I use the Subway Subcard app. It has a code they scan at the till and it lets me collect points so that, one day soon, I will be able to claim a free sandwich! Until then, I guess I have no choice but to keep eating there.

Google Sky Map

When you see something in the sky and it looks like a UFO, you can open the Sky Map app, point your phone at the sky and see if it’s a real UFO or a planet in a galaxy far, far away. This app is great when your camping, I use when were sat outside at night, you can find an image of a galaxy or constellation and the app shows you where to look in the sky to find it. It’s got a great photo gallery of galaxies, solar systems and distant stars, but it can make you kind of dizzy spinning looking for them in the sky!

Now you know my favorite apps and hopefully you found something you like. Go try some of them out, maybe they will make your trip to work a bit less boring!
