Welsh Government - Business Wales – Social media

Case Study

The Question:

The Welsh Government had developed a swish website offering businesses in Wales advice, guidance and access to online transactions. So far, so good. But businesses needed to know it was there and use it. Could we improve its activity and focus through social media? Could we get the business community in Wales fired up by sharpening the advertising, search engine optimisation and pay-per-click activity?

The Answer:

The short answer is yes, we could. The long answer is, we came up with a strategy that would ensure the target audience couldn't miss the site on social media networks. This included planning and scheduled activity with advertising, SEO and PPC marketing activity. We monitored it daily, giving advice on both content and timing.

The Result:

Tweets from both English and Welsh accounts has increased from sporadic to several times per day.  Engagement levels have soared with followers growing by 30% in just three months (an average of 10 new followers per day). Their Facebook page was stagnant and in the space of two months has had a 36% increase in likes, with posts viewed 6,929 times.

Guess what? More results

Business Wales is now consistently ranking highly on Google for key word searches; this is due in the main part to the increase in social media activity and SEO consultation started in January 2012. With our guidance, Twitter has now become the main platform for connecting with the business community in Wales and is used for sharing and discussing hot topics, while Facebook provides a platform for events across Wales.
